In partnership with When Females Lead, Women in the Boardroom acknowledges the vulnerability of communities, particularly children and young individuals, recognizing that education and access to essential resources are pivotal in addressing poverty. In December 2020, we identified the pressing needs of the residents in Mwalukanga Village, located in Zambia's Chongwe district, prompting our proactive steps to construct a school and a maternity ward to cater to their critical requirements.
Continuing our commitment to supporting the Mwalukanga community, WFL conducts multiple donation drives each year, collaborating with our partners to provide essential donations of food and school supplies.

Primary school commissioned in September 2022
In December 2020, we identified the plight of Mwalukanga Village in Zambia's Chongwe district, recognizing the community's need for assistance. Understanding the challenges faced by the village, including the absence of a nearby school (with the closest one being 10 kilometers away at Mikango Barracks), where younger children couldn't attend due to the distance, we initiated efforts to address these issues.
In October 2021, partnering with DLN Technologies, Professional Insurance, and Stanbic, we launched the Mwalukanga school project. This initiative aimed to construct a 1x3 classroom block to bridge the educational gap. This project reached fruition in September 2022, as the completed classroom block was handed over to the Ministry of Education.
Key Milestones

Maternity
Clinic (ongoing construction)
The Mwalukanga village is home to over 200 women of childbearing age, we firmly advocate for the fundamental right to access healthcare. We recognize that ensuring quality menstrual and sanitary healthcare significantly contributes to safe pregnancies, deliveries, and overall positive patient experiences. Consequently, in response to the challenges faced by women in Mwalukanga, who had to endure a 20-kilometer journey to reach the nearest health facility, we embarked on a new initiative.
On the 3rd of June 2023, we marked a significant milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a maternity ward. This facility aims not only to serve the women of Mwalukanga but also extend its services to three neighboring villages. Our endeavor is dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of these communities and ensuring accessible and quality maternal healthcare for women in the region.
03
Ablution blocks
We aims to focus on health and sanitation in vulnerable schools by constructing five modern and safe ablution blocks in vulnerable schools per year. These Ablution blocks will serve as a cornerstone for promoting hygiene practices, reducing waterborne diseases, and fostering dignity among vulnerable school communities, especially for young girls.
By focusing on well-built and secure ablution facilities, for vulnerable children, this will not only prioritise the well-being of students but also contribute to improved attendance, academic performance, and overall community health. Moreover, these initiatives will contribute to a broader societal impact by nurturing a generation that values and understands the importance of hygiene and sanitation, leading to positive long-term health outcomes and community development.
